Sean Cleary

“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.”

1 Corinthians 13: 1-3

As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor I work to meet people where they are regardless of spiritual orientation. I like to hear about the season of life that you are in with an open mind.  Reaching out can take a lot of courage and talking about the details of your life is not always easy.  I hold a lot of respect for people who make the effort to make things better and try to give the space that people need to work on their own development while helping them to face their issues over time.

I have an MA in Counseling and two years of experience working with a wide variety of people in chemical dependency (and all the other life issues that are drawn into addictions). The evidence based interventions I like to work with come from CBT, DBT, Brief Solution Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Exposure Therapy, Person Centered Psychotherapy and Strengths Based Strategies. I use what seems appropriate as your treatment unfolds.  I also draw on Psychodynamic insights, Depth Psychology, Narrative Therapy and Bibliotherapy.  I especially like to bring in Bibliotherapy with movies when appropriate and will sometimes give watching a popular movie as homework.  As a Christian Counselor, I hold the Bible’s guidelines about how to treat one another - with love - as absolute truth and the best way imaginable to do things. The lifestyle Jesus teaches is, in my opinion, the best way to gain inner peace and a steady sense of personal power, but, again, I don't force my conclusions on anyone but respect that we all have our own personal walks with understanding the truth.

I treat people with Depression with Anxiety, with Trauma, Sexual Addiction, Substance Abuse, questions about meaning and purpose, and relationship issues in and outside of marriage.  Meeting with a Counselor can be a rare opportunity to be heard.  Whether you have a specific problem that you would like to work on or could simply use a listening ear, I am trained to work as a clinician under my license, and empowered to treat you with kindness by my relationship with God.

I look forward to meeting with you and hearing your story!
